Via 'Boys Over Flowers', SS501's leader Kim Hyun Joong's popularity exploded in Japan. On July 29th, he held a showcase for his debut solo album 'Break Down' in Zepp Tokyo. During the press conference, the media asked him with his experience from SS501's Japan performances, is he still nervous? With a confident face, he replied 'Frankly I'm not nervous. Love Game: summary

It has been 2 years since he returned to her program. He has not done radio for 2 years.
She comments on how good his voice is. Most of the time people talk about KHJ’s looks.
She says she is Bi’s fan but she was really impressed that there is someone more impressive or as impressive as Bi.

He says that he went through a lot to prepare for the debut…6 months of work, discouragements, slump and recharging. He also thought about quitting and just going back to acting but thought about all the people who worked hard with him. So he slept maybe 3~4 hours and practiced a lot until the debut. To overcome his feelings of discouragement, he just decided to throw hmself into the wrok as there was a goal of the debut date approaching.

He talked the most with KyuJong before he came out as solo as they both have not come out with album at that time. They would get together for soju and talk. KJ also worked hard by trying acting in Musical at this time and his hard work is paying off and that also encouraged him.

KHJ says that Break Down is much better with dance and on the stage.

He was struggling about whether to make BD or Please as title song. But his 2nd stage song will be Kiss Kiss instead of Please because people were showing much more heated enthusiasm for Kiss Kiss. Personally, he likes BD the best.

Someone wrote in that she thought KHJ would be very proud and haughty but she saw him at WeGotMarried and thought him very nice and also has a strong ability to make a living. She wonders if there are other types of misunderstanding that people have about him.

He says that people think that he is a type to go for wines and such. BUt in fact he prefers soju type of food. Even now he says that he drinks about 3 and half to 4 and half bottles. She is surpised that he can drink that much.

Regarding his popularity at youth. He says he had none as he rarely went to school. So he hardly had opportunity to meet girls. He also was not a gentle type of person as youth but a rough, soccer-loving kind of person. In fact, he says that girls were afraid of him. In his youth, his friends included 3 Kim’s including himself and all three were considered to have bad personalities. He is still very close to those friends and even now they do not have girlfriends as the personality was mooteukteuk-blunt and not so personable. (It is hard to tell from that statement whether he includes himself among the 2 Kims as not having a gf now. But it also sounds like he is not among them.–Korean language can be so vague!!)

MC says that just because someone is good-looking does not mean that he is popular. She also asks him about his height. He says he grew while he was active in Japan and then he is basically this height even in high school days.

Mc plays the PLEASE which is her favorite.

Regarding his hope for next acting job: he says that playing a smart and rich guy was difficult for him and the characters are kind of far from his true self. He prefers to play a role like Dok GoJin, a comical and playful character, from Greatest Love.

MC felt that KHJ would be better suited for action type of character like WonBin in Ajussi. KHJ says that if he plays a playful character, he would like something really comical and if it is an action actor, he would like to play it more seriously.

It appears that his bday is a national holiday to honor the people who servied the country. So he used to think that flags were flying for his bday. As a elementary student, he would play soccer and eat chicken and pizza. As a jh student he would get money together and eat grilled pork skin and or jjajjangmyun and play soccer. As a high school student, he and his friends tried to imitate adults by getting a soju together and trying some.

His motto is that life is one shot. He does not think about fantasy or past life but that life is now. He is born a KHJ so he will do his best to live well until death. He has a second motto which is that don’t be a number one but be the only one.

She recommends that he later come up with a song called Only One and perhaps he can even wirte it. He says he will try.

Currently he goes to his fitness center which has a swimming pool so he swims. To increase breathing he is also practicing holding breath and swimming under water from one end to the next. He says it is an agony doing that so he would not want to broadcast it.

MC asks if there are other celebrities who also frequent it. He says no. It is mostly membered by grandmothers and grandfathers who tend to use the track alot that he feels like he has the entire gym to himself. Most of the members also come early from 6 to 7 AM.

He again talked about his complex about dark circles and becomming too dark due to too much soccer. He also felt that he is no longer idol since he went on air for Knee Master show. (That is the show where he said that he sort of fixed his nose). The fact that he can naturally talk about drinking, shaving, first love and hair cutting means that he is no longer an idol. As an idol, talking about such things was prohibited in the agency.

He also says that he quit smoking on Jan 1 2011. He did relapse once this year but he practices no smiking at this time. He will be touring the music program circle again with Kiss Kiss. He says that he thought that he would be nervous on stage after not working as a singer for a while but he didnot and he really enjoys it very much.

He reads an article that says that as an idol he lived very naturally ane even scolded fans and he hopes to enjoy his old days with other fans who become parents.

KHJ talked about scolding young or old fans who would come around to his house–he really does not care too much for fanatic fans and he also felt that such fans do not stay long as fans. He really like those fans who are considerate of his privacy and even do not try to talk with him or shake his hands on fan signing days and instead tell him to take a break at that time.

These are fans who watch over him from far and he is very grateful to them.
He says that even during his SS group days, he went around doing what he wanted to do even in full make-up. He went to see movies, he even went to amusement parks, etc. He says that there was no real prohibitions set by the agency against him. But the mc who seems to have been part of that old agency says that there was more prohibitions aginst female members.

KHJ says that the president knew everything but did not really say anytning too aginst it. Even going to clubs and such.

KHJ says that he was scared so he did say everything after he did them. He once got into a big trouble because he was late for his schedule. He thought he would die. He says that even if he would get punished, he would anticipate it and still do what he wanted to do anyway. (Is he saying that he was beaten up or something when he was late for a scheduled appt?? At first he says that he did not have prohibitions but then he saiys that he would anticipate punishment and still did what he wanted to do and then reported to the agency out of fear….Do you know what I mean?)

His plan: Until end of July, he will promote his current album, then in August, he plans to tour about 10 to 12 Asian countries for fan meetings. Then, he is not going to go into acting this year but promote his second album. Mc asks him to return to Love Game to promote his second album.

While KHJ was working on Mischievous Kiss, he had been reviewing songs for his album. He heard about 200 songs. He chose 10 songs from them. He thought about what songs would be good and also fitting for him. He practiced for a month and a half just for the stage performance which was very difficult for him.

He introduced his album songs in the show for the clips 1,2,3.

Re doing solo album–the positive aspect is that he can do the kind of music that he wants. The negative aspect is that he has to fill up what he used to do with 4 other members by himself.
He felt that he had to put in 5 times the effort.

He often felt the slump as he prepared each song for the album. But he was also able to take with him a realization that if one tries, one can do it.

Comparing life when he was in SS group to now his solo life: He actually slept lot more while functioning as a group—even if the group is noisy, he still slept through it. Now, he finds that he sleeps less and he is really taking good care of his voice. He does throat and voice exercises like humming and blowing and eating ?jip?. He also worries about catching cold so uses air conditionser less.

Danny gave 20 two choices and he has to choose one of them very quickly. I will put what he chose first then what he did not choose second.

He says that he researched so much about autism to prepare for JiHoo role that he could not act well. But he realizes that acting should be more comfortable and relate to everyday life.

KHJ is given several situations and he is to answer what he would do:

situation 1: a person is waitint in front of a ex-gf’s house and sees the girl walking hand in hand with the new guy—KHJ says that he would tell her he will wait for her until 12 so please come back after ending it. Then, he says that he has to make sure she comes to him by beating up the new bf after the exgf and new bf say goodbye so that he is in no condition to influence the gf and then he would go and take a shower and wait for her to come to him. (laughter)

situation2: a friend calls at dawn aksing for KHJ’s help. He bought a brand name bag for the gf as she kept on asking for it. But now his credit card is over 3bekmanwon. So, KHJ would say to his friend to break his investment and use it. (laughter)

If a friend really needs money? I think what KHJ is saying is that if you reach out to a friend to borrow money, your relationshipo with that friend is not deep enough. He says that when he was haiving realy tough time, he never asked friend for money as he could not bear the burden he is putting on the freind.

If your girlfriend says you are no bf as he has very little time to spend with the gf…he says he would tell her..that is right I am not your bf….(the radio show is saying that the answer does not seem right) so KHJ says ..right I am not your bf but I will be your husband someday. (laughter)

MC asks if KHJ is really like that to a gf if he has one. KHJ says that he does not really express sentiments. He tends to love alone and show more fighting words to gf. He prefers gf who is more like a friend so that he can say anything even not so nice words (ie get lost) to her.

last situation: your gf tells you she is busy and goes off to a club with her friends but you find out because your other friend sees her there. gf beggs for your forgiveness. KHJ says that he will tell her not to be so sorry as he has gone to clubs many times without her. Same same. Mc asks him if he goes to club often. KHJ says he rarely goes ot clubs. He has gone 2 oe 3 times with few “hyungs” but he feels it does not suit him. Many strange women would approach him and the fact that he would have to spend so much money on expensive alcohol and share with others does not seem right to him. Not too long ago, he went to a club called Mombi in GhangNam for a dancer hyung’s bday and he liked that one as it is more a dancing club. He felt more comfortable talking with male DJ’s.

(perhaps both the mc and KHJ being idols, there was no direct questions about KHJ and his cureent situations at all…perhpas to help KHJ to maintain privacy??? I felt that it was hard to get the real KHJ from those situatons–I wonder if he would even go out with girlfriends like described in the situations.

Does KHJ think of himself as 4D? KHJ feels that people think of his honesty as something comical. KHJ says that he does not really think too seriously about being referred to as 4D. KHJ talks about his album: He worked with Steven Lee and other choreographers who woked with usher and other famous aritsts. He feels grateful to all these people.

KHJ had soft image but now he returned as strong man in Break Down. Why? KHJ says that he realized that he cannot have that white skin he used to have and his skin is not as it used to be and he also grown beard too fast so he said to himself it is best to go the road of becoming a man. He has 6 pack and everything now. His dance is referred to as tje 3-level gear dance or something that goes around and around. He is happry with the dance and is happy that other people are saying positive things about it too.

KHJ says that lots of people ask him to take off sunglasses while performing on stage. But he says he just cannot do it now. Sometimes perfoming is so hard that his eyes turn in exhaustion. So he wants to adjust to the perfomance more and then take it off one of these days.
KHJ says that when he was doing mv he did not wear sunglasses but realized his exhaustion while performing on stage.

KHJ syas that he does feel most comofortable in this radio program as they are all similar age and had been idols.

Suju further ask about the popularity. KHJ says that he feels that he has more popularity among those under 30. But for the older,,,no. He thinks that it may take him 20 years or more to surpass the reputation and populatiy of Bae Yong Joon. Suju thinks that KHJ has loaylty.

KHJ says that all the girls group members are cute, pretty and sexy but he has never felt that he wanted to make them his girlfriend. He says that realistically he would think that these girl group members would not be able to hang our late at night and have a beer with him. Becayse his ideal female is someone he can be as comfortable as a firend. But he says that maybe in 5 years things can be different. He also says that those girl group members cannot eat whatever they want either as they have to stay in shape for their work.

Suju asked if there is any other person whom KHJ is interested. KHJ says that he actually met someone. It is someone in his own agency and asked Bae Yong joon to arrange a dinner as he is her fan. It is HongSehWon-sunbaenim(who is that??) He had dinner and couple of wines with her. Some fan asked KHJ if he ever had drinks/meals with Lee HyoRi. He says he did as they were once in the same agency together.

Another radio listener aksed KHJ’s help in getting the girl of his dreams. KHJ says the he believes that sincerity will be communicated. Instead of spenidng moneyy, he would encourage truthfulness and sincerity and belief and credibility. Suju asked KHJ to show in acting. In acting out how to get the girl, Lee Teuk play the girl and says to KHJ that she is busy so make it fast. KHJ says I konw you are busy so I will say it quickly. I love you. The new song Kiss Kiss is played and KHJ hopes that Kiss The RAdio program edits it well and use it as the radio show tune. keke
KHJ talks about the song Kiss KIss and its dance and shows it–SUJU thinks the dance movies could be awkward as the song is so sweet and cute. But KHJ says that after BreakDwon song, there is more request for KissKiss song.
Another fan asks when was your last kiss? SUJU says that he can pass the question if he does not want to answer. KHJ says that it was 4 months ago.Lee Teuk asks KHJ is he considres himself the best looking among all the idels?? KHJ says no. For him, he thinks many people are good looking but what differentiates is how charismatic and sincere that person is…how that person give off the aura aropund him.

The other Suju member chines in to say that his father watched khj in Strong Heart and mentions that he saw KHJ at the TV station once and thingks that KHJ is the best looking among all the idols. So, Suju says that he did not even say goodnight to his father before going to bed.
Then a person calls the radio and he is called Park SeungBum and he plays soccer with KHJ in the celebrity soccer. Both play offense but he says that he is better than khj..that is he very fast but that if KHJ comes out on the field, it is hard to play the game as he has to sit out so he does not like it when KHJ cmes out. keke But, Park says that KHJ looks like he cannot do sports well…but SUJU both say he looks like he can really play well. Park does say that kHJ does really play very well. JUnsu and KHJ are kind of rivals in the game. Lee Teuk asks if KHJ or Junsu is better and Park says actually JUnsu is better. Doojin also called and said that KHJ and he also play soccer together but are not that close and KHJ also does not speak informally to him even though KHJ is older than he is. Doojin must be part of BEAST and he say that khj plays soccer well like Phillip Injaki whio is really good at position selections. (I don’t konw spoets.) KHJ says that hopes to get even closer to these two by having more meals after the games and he will try to talk more informally. He says he finds it har dot talk informally.

khj tells fan that he will be doing some fan signing events in areas that are not Seoul…like Daegoo, InCjuin and Biusan, et. He says he is so busy now that he cannot do it but he hopes to do it before June is over.
Somebody asked which idol KHJ is close to. KHJ says that he is close to SUJU members and JYJ members. The other mc says tjat KHJ is also close to Donghae. KHJ acknowledges it. Then he quickly says that he comes from same town with Siwon. He addresses Siwon very informaly. Siwon was very famous in school. Lee Teuk asks if Siwon or KHJ was famous during school days. KHJ says that Siwon went to school very deligently whereas he did not. So people did not know him at school. (Woah, KHJ and Siwon went to same junior high school!) The other Suju mc says that Siwon said that in Kangnam area, he and KHJ and Top were pretty famous…that everybody knew them. (Thenm I thnk KHJ said that they were not famous because of grades r anything…) Time ran out KHJ makes promotion for his album and ends. KHJ says that he will not be acting the rest of the year as he is busy preparing the next album. He had a really good time he says.

So, the highlight from the interview for me is that KHJ says his last kiss was 4 months ago, making it around Valentine’s Day. Also, he says that he had dinner with Hong SehYun the actress from the samw agency. I wonder if she is the one who came out in his MV?? I am curious about that. But the SUJU mc;s do not seem that interested in the information. Also, the other SuJu mc knows that KHJ is close to Donghae but KHJ kind of skimmed over the information as if he did not want to talk about that. hmmmm…It seems that being idols, they are respectful of privacy of each other.

Kim Hyun Joong announces plans for a Japanese tour

SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong successfully completed his Japanese showcase on July 29th at the JEPP Tokyo.

Over 1,800 fans and reporters from 200 different media outlets showed up for the promotional “Break Down“ event. Although Kim Hyun Joong performed in Japan before with SS501, it was his first time appearing as a soloist. “Even so, I’m not nervous,” he said as he smiled at the crowd.

After performing a total of seven songs, the 4D leader cracked up the audience as he confessed, “I want to sing more, but I don’t have any more songs to sing.”

Concluding the concert, he revealed, “In response to all of the Japanese fans who showed so much love for my solo album, I will be planning a nationwide tour in Japan.”

Kim Hyun Joong will be releasing his second solo album this fall, and will embark on a seven-city tour across Japan in November.

KHJ approached Kwanghee to do his radio show and he feels that KH is very good person as well. They talked about KHJ’s Uzusin items created by KHJ selling out very well in Japan. KHJ created that character so that fans feel that they are coming to KHJ and only KHJ concert. KHJ was asked if he was asked anything extraordinary when he went overseas: KwangHee is a great host in that he helps the guest in terms of thnking about their answer by using himself as an example…so KHJ talked about whether he wears underwear when sleeping..ans is no. KHJ is asked about the news that KHJ exposed his naked butt: KHJ says that he and the dancer hyungs and codi-noonas took a vacation to the Phillippines and stayed at a hotel with a private swimming pool. He says that dancer hyungs are like his brothers and they just swam with nothing on and then codi-noonas came in and they were shocked. (hey! This story is little different from the Secret show~~) 

Questions from the listeners 

KHJ says that if he were born a girl would he have married KHJ? He did not care for that question. He says that most likely if he were a girl he would not be very interested in KHJ because KHJ likes to spend too much time with other male friends and does not really know what to do with female friends/gf. (I have a feeling that he may be fitting his answers for the much younger crowd of listeners. KHJ ‘s promotion of his album is amazing in that he is reaching out to all ages groups and people of all musical tastes…I would think that Young Streeet is a differnt crwod than people who listen to Lee sora or other mc;s.) 
What would KHJ do if he had one min to live: If so, he would like to repent all his sins before dying. He is Catholic. At KH’s suggestion, KHJ also said that he would say I love you to his family and children before dying and to say let us see each other in heaven. KH says that KHJ ans was so serious that he does not know how to respond,,,he thought it would be a joke. KHJ liked this person’s question. 

Next question was if KHJ gets too tired of hearing how good looking he is. KHJ did not care for the question. But he says that actually he feels good when he hears that he is good looking whether he hears it one time or 1000 times. Who would not feel good hearing that they are pretty and handsome because it is a praise after all. The person receiving the praise may not be able to respond well but inside, that person will feel good always.





Even if you win lotto, would you continue to work? KHJ says that if he wins, he will pay tax and then donate the rest. He is currently buying lotto. He says that he thinks about it a lot. He feels that he cannot give up work that he loves and if he does, he will feel irritated. He say he can always earn the money by working. KH asks KHJ how he deals with when he feels like quitting due to so much work. KHJ gives him advice that his mindset has to change— to be grateful for the opportunity that we have now so that we feel energized to continue. KH liked that advice. 

If there could be a KHJ holiday, when? KHJ wants it on June 7 because June 6 is his birthday and he can then have 2 days off in a row. June 6 th is a Korean Memorial Day when Korean flags are posted everywhere. He thought as a child that people put up flags for him. His name is HyunJoong to match the Memorial Day which is called Hyun Choong Day in Korea. 

Here KHJ praises how well the two mc’s are…they really are very good…KHJ also seems so much more mature and KH is really a natural!! 

Now the Young Street has advice corner: Listeners write in their stress and KHJ agreed to give advice according to his style. 

Problem: sum: this person has pretty legs and wear short as weather is hot but too many men look at her and her legs even caused a fight bet a couple, so she is sick and tired of it. KHJ says that that person most likely does not feel sick and tired inside. She probably feel satisfied. He says that she is lying. He says that all those Korean women who thinks their legs are pretty should travel to LA in USA and walk around. He thinks that they will be shocked at lack of response. 

KHJ says that Yeon also has pretty legs. He saw her group Jewelry on TV and thought all of them are tall and were sort of surpised that they are all kind of short in real life. 

Two friends who live together were going to buy TV together but only the writer ended up paying for the TV. But the other roommate is now constantly watching the TV and even hogs the TV time. KHJ says that at certain time, the person can get additional programs on TV. Then, he can set up a password so that the roommate has no access to them. That roommate will eventually go crazy wanting to watch those special programs and eventually pay some money toward watching special programs on TV. Two mc’s are amazed at KHJ’s advices. When KH says that he tends to be the one in his dormitory to say he does not want raymyun but then ends up eating up everybody’s food. KHJ says that he did not experience that when he was living with his group. Everybody just cooked his own ramyun or food when he wanted to eat. 

A young person makes herself very pretty and go to work but one older coworker would put her down saying that she only came to her work to get a husband. KHJ says that the writer should just ignore it and continue to be polite and show the other coworker courtesy. Eventually the pretty person will get more recognition as they get more popularity in about 5 years. KHJ says that usually those who are not pretty do not take care to look pretty. He says he is only talking about women. (somehow I don’t think KHJ will score well with this advice. Do you ???) KHJ says that pretty people are pretty because they take time to take care of themselves deligently. KHJ says that the writer should ignore the older coworker only from the inside and then try to understand no-chu-nyu or unmarried older woman. 

A woman went out for 2 months and saw in the bf’s webpage pix of old gf and how happy they look together. KHJ says that she must have felt hurt. KHJ says that she should post pix of her old bf and get him to stealthily take a look at her webpage and see how he feels. Yeon asks KHJ if men keep pix of old gf because they are not over the ex.KHJ says that that is not true,,,men are just lazy. Mc asks KHJ if he had any similar experience. KHJ says that he had a gf and he called her by his ex-gf name. Because that gf would not respond at all, KHJ kept on calling her by the ex name. He saw that his gf only stared at him with utter hatred. Then he realized what he had done. Yeon also says that she experienced the same thing and so she broke up with her bf. (Hey. These days, idols talk about bf very naturally—maybe generation is changing???) KHJ says that he also realized that such an incident can lead to a break up and he also eventually experienced a break up. He also was somewhat shocked by that experience that he asked around for advice. He was told that instead of the old pix with ex, what comes out of one’s mouth could be more hurtful. Yeon says that even though she could have tried to understand her ex bf to have called her by his ex out of habit, she still could not deal with the hurt or try to forgive. KHJ also made mistake in saying things to his gf that was meant for his exgf. He would say you don’t like sushi or you don’t like meat in broth and then suddenly realize that it was his ex gf who had that taste and not the current gf. KH says that men have to be careful. Yeon says that KHJ seems to be a bad man. KHJ says that his gf then also took revenge against him and did the same thing to him and he felt very angry. So he understands that such things can be very hurtful. Men will only understand the pain once they experience it first hand…he says. 

One woman wrote in that she liked a guy for one year even though he is not the handsomest or tallest. So she finally confessed but he says that she cannot like someone like him and it has been already two months . But she keeps on asking him out anyway. KHJ says that 2 things come to his mind. The guy may not really like that girl but he is just kindly rejecting her by saying that she deserves someone like WonBina and JO INSung. The second thing that comes to his mind is that the man actually does not feel he is worth it. He may be suspicious of the woman’s love for him. KH asks if KHJ was proposed to. KHJ says that in his entire life he was proposed to by a woman only once after the debut. Yeon says that if she confesses to him, he would have had two women who initiated. KH called her crazy and knows what she has done just now and Yeon immediately apologized to all the KHJ fans all over the world..(wow, celebrities live in a difficult world!!) He received a text from a female who said that she has liked him for several months and…But KHJ sent her a text back saying that he already has someone that he likes. KH says that oh, that must have been painful. KHJ says that it may be painful but in this type of situation, boundary has to be very clearly set from the start. (Woah, he is good! He could be a good businessman!) For the advice to the woman, KHJ says that he really does not know what the answer is. He says that if talking does not help, maybe she should try to Kiss Kiss. (He could have just said kiss one time but he used it twice like his song. What a subversive yet smart way to promote his album and song on the radio!! Did he study advertising psychology or is this all innate??? I think KHJ really could be an effective business man. Many people have said that KHJ is blunt, aloof, could be cold,,,I could see where those impressions can come from . He has clear boundaries and clear comfort zones and that could appear kind of cold and sharp. Somehow this radio program did not talk about or play any music like KHJ album at all.) Yeon thnks the woman maybe taken to the police for such action. KHJ says that it could also help the man to know for sure that she is serious. KHJ says that if that man feel positive about the kiss, then he will be your slave forever. 
Time to end. KHJ says that he had such a good time that he wants to return and wants to come back I n October. But mc’s only have two months contract. But KHJ says that he will send lots of posts so that they can stay on as mc’s and he asks the audience to provide lots of support for two mc’s . (KHJ and many people must know that KHJ can be influential…I guess???)

This is a compilation of tidbits from many radio shows that KHJ participated as he promoted his album. Several have been translated on soompi already. There was one that I never heard before. It is a radio show with mc who is No HongChul who is a comedian and really wild and crazy dresser at least in the past. With No, KHJ seems to be talking about other things that other mc’s do not ask. KHJ talks about his dogs and he got a male and female so that they do not get lonely with each other. He got them because he comes home to an empty house. He talks about his two favorite tV programs. He talks about liking the farm life, labor at farm and going fishing with men on the boat as seen onTV etc. 

I wonder if any of you can get that vid….to learn yet other aspects of KHJ….if possible. 
But no pressure.
